GAP Year Abroad

The International Volunteer Travel offers an exciting gap year program for young people who are looking for a break after secondary school, or college students who just need some time off. The International Volunteer Travel offers placements in several countries in many different areas of interest. Participants will discover new things about life in other countries, and actually learn more about themselves.

Taking a gap year overseas is great for learning about different cultures and gaining valuable knowledge that will help you later on.

The People.

You will interact with many nice people, and make some great friends. These relationships will last a lifetime, and will give you insight and understanding of different cultures.

What Could I do?

International Volunteer Travel offers several programs. Gap Year abroad opportunities are available in all areas of internship and volunteer placement in our program. In addition, you can combine your year out abroad with our Adventure, Wildlife work or the Spanish study abroad program.

From these programs you will choose a project placement. There are many to consider, including teaching, working with domestic or even wild animals, working with children, Christian mission work, HIV and AIDS awareness, medical work, or nature conservation. You can also do reforestation, community development, working with women in prisons, business enterprises, children dance and drama, or working with artisan groups.

So many opportunities! Now all you have to do is choose.

Where Would I go?

From Central America to Southeast Asia, there are many countries to choose from. First off, pick a continent! We have placements available in Central America, South America, Africa, and Asia. Then you can determine which country fits you best.

Placement abroad is currently available in the following countries:

Tanzania Zanzibar
Thailand
Uruguay

How Long Would It Last?

Overseas Year Out placements are available for a minimum of 1 weeks and a maximum of one year. For longer periods of international gap year volunteer or internship work, please contact us.

When Could I Start?

Volunteer and internship programs starting dates vary by region but we have two starting dates each month.

Generally, in Africa and Asia, programs start on the first and third Wednesday of each month and in Latin America, programs start on the second and fourth Wednesday.

Where Would I Stay?

International volunteers and overseas interns will be living with carefully selected host families.

Fees vary by type and length of program, and by country of placement. Participants pay program fees including non-refundable registration fees.
