The Kenya Explorer Program
The International Volunteer Travel Kenya Explorer Program Combines the one week Language and Culture Experience with the Masai Mara Adventure Program to provide overseas volunteers in Kenya with a great opportunity to explorer the Kenyan culture learn the Swahili language and view Kenya's nature and wild animals in Kenya's wilderness conservation areas.
International Volunteers begin with the language and cultural experience week; proceed to participate in volunteering abroad or internship overseas placement, before proceeding to the wilderness safaris in Masai Mara in the Great Kenya Rift Valley.
A sample schedule of our International Volunteer Travel Kenya Explorer Adventure program is provided below:
Day 1: Arrival and pick up from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, in Nairobi, Kenya and transfer to host family home, registration
Day 2: Orientation. About 2 to 4 hours lecture at the home of your host. Topics covered during orientation lecture will include East African culture, history, customs, politics, geography, and necessary health precautions, and various other topics, such as the diversity of Kenyan life. Afternoon is free for exploring rural Kenyan life and getting to know your host family.
Week 1: Kenya Language and Culture Experience
3: Morning - Swahili Language classes for 2-3
hours. Afternoon will be spent taking a guided
tour of downtown Nairobi, including
parliament buildings; the railways museum and
the famous Maasai market where
international volunteers can buy curios
and interact with the famous Maasai people dressed
in their traditional outfits.
The Sykes monkeys are friendly and gentle
and seldom bite. Baboons and Velvet Monkeys can
also be seen at the park. The monkeys feed on
wild fruits and leaves in the forest but also
beg for fruits and nuts from visitors.
Kenya Program Highlights
Length of Program:
1st and 3rd Thursday of every Month; Plan to arrive the day before.
Airport Arrival Time:
Day prior to starting preferably by 3:00 PM
Accommodation & Meals:
Carefully selected Kenyan households provide accommodation and 3 Kenyan meals per day.
Transport to Project:
projects within walking distance, else bus fare will not exceed USD 1.30 per day.
Mondays to Fridays. 3 to 6 hours daily.
Kenya program fees available here.
Basic Swahili encouraged but not required; working knowledge of English required.
This schedule is subject to change by the country coordinator to suit local circumstances. The program requires a minimum sign-up time of 2 weeks.
