Costa Rica Nature Conservation and Eco-Tourism Volunteer WorkInternational volunteers interested innature conservation and/or eco-tourism activities in will love these projects. Overseas volunteers will get a first hand experience of what eco-tourism entails. Activities for volunteers abroad in this project will include teaching English, maintaining trails, feeding animals, translating documents, guiding tours, watching and monitoring of birds and animals, welcoming tourists, answering phones, and making trails, etc.

A. Montverde Cloud Forest Reservation
The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reservation and the park are among the top ten attractions of Costa Rica, with thousands of nationals and foreign tourist visiting this beautiful place every year. The park has great nature viewing bridges; frog, serpent, butterfly farms, and other attractions.
Overseas Volunteer Duties: Receiving visitors, translation, answering phone calls of tourist, bookings, developing brochures, customer service, orienting customers/tourists to the reserve, tour guiding to the reserve, front desk duties, making signs and arts, etc. Access to the park is free for volunteers abroad in this Costa Rica nature conservation project.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and few Saturday mornings.
Transport: Within 10 to 15 minutes of walking distance from home. Bus return trip will normally be around USD 2.15.
Location: Santa Elena, 3.5 hours from San Jose
B. Costa Rica Nature Park System: This are a number of parks all focused on showcasing Costa Rica natural history and biodiversity by way of interactive exhibits halls and guided tours through different Costa Rica ecological habitats including native forest, tropical wet forest and tropical dry forest.
Overseas Volunteer Duties: International volunteers can teach English, maintain park and park trails, feed animals, carry out laboratory experiments, etc. Sometimes international volunteers may be asked to guide tourists through the park. Volunteers abroad with a background of Biological and related sciences will find this placement especially exciting. Those interested but without such skills but willing to learn will be trained.
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays. Costa Rica Volunteers work for 6 hours per day between 9 AM and 4 PM.
Transport: Schools are mostly within 10 to 20 minutes of walking distance from your local home. Bus return trip will normally not exceed USD 0.35.
Location: Located in Santo Domingo and Heredia.
C. Rainforest Tram Park
This park has aerial trams going into the rainforest. Many national and foreign tourist visit this place to watch the beauty of the forest from the trams, they have an office in San JosÃ© down town where people get information and can make reservations.
Overseas Volunteer Duties: Volunteers abroad in this nature/eco-tourism project can work either at the office in San Jose or at the park, in the forest, in Guapiles, one hour from San Jose.
In San Jose, Costa Rica volunteer duties will include receiving
visitors, translation, answering phone calls of tourist, bookings,
developing brochures, customer service, introducing customers/tourists
to the refuge.
In Guapiles, Costa Rica eco tourism volunteers will be involved in tour guiding to the refuge, front desk duties, making signs and arts, etc. Limited free access to the park is available; unlimited access will be at a subsidized price for all project international volunteers.
Schedule: Monday to Saturdays with some free days and times. Fairly flexible hours, maximum 8 per day, between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Transport: Within 10 to 20 minutes of walking distance from home. Bus return trip will normally be around USD 0.35.
Location: San Jose; Guapiles.
