TestimonialsSurvival Portuguese Language Program
Except
for the international community, the language spoken in Brazil
is Portuguese. The International Volunteer Travel Survival Portuguese Program
is a one-week program especially prepared for those with no prior
knowledge of Portuguese. If you have no prior working knowledge of
Portuguese, Spanish or Italian, you might find it difficult and
frustrating to effectively volunteer or intern in Brazil.
Required Participation:
This program is required for all people who don’t speak
Portuguese, Spanish or Italian if they are staying for more
than 3 weeks. Those staying for a shorter period are strongly
encouraged to participate but are not required to do so.
Portuguese language learning under this program is geared towards helping the overseas volunteer and international intern develop practical skills for everyday travel situations. This Brazil culture program covers useful language for conversation at restaurant, bank, tourist office, supermarket, post office, airport, etc.
Applicants Note:
The Brazil Survival Portuguese Program is not offered alone. Only applicants who sign up for one other program such as the Volunteer Abroad in Brazil, Internships Abroad in Brazil, or the Brazil Adventure Holidays programs, can participate in the Survival Portuguese Program.
A typical schedule of the Survival Portuguese Program in Brazil is as follows:
Day 1: Arrival and pick up from the International Airport, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Day 2: Orientation and culture lectures covering topics including
Brazilian culture, history, customs, politics, geography, and necessary
health precautions, and the diversity of Brazilian life. The afternoon
is free for exploring Brazilian life and the city of Rio.
Day 3 - 5: Portuguese language class, 1.3 hours a day, in the morning. In
the afternoon, volunteers abroad and overseas interns work with
Brazilian children and youths teaching them circus, dance, acrobatics
and music.
Day 6: Portuguese language classes end. Evaluation of the program. In
the afternoon, volunteers abroad and overseas interns work with
Brazilian children and youths teaching them circus, dance, acrobatics
and music.
Day 7: Free day.
Note: Weekends are free to explore the city of Rio and the rest of
Brazil or even continue volunteering with children.
