The International Volunteer Travel is proud to offer the premier Study Abroad Costa Rica Program. This overseas program provides the most excellent opportunity for non-native speakers to study Spanish as a second language in Latin America.
Classes are offered at all the nine levels of Spanish learning under the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) regulations, from low beginner to high advanced. Students get a proficiency test to determine the level at which they should start. In addition to college Spanish, we offer special programs for Children, Senior Citizens, Business people, Theologians, High School Students.
Spanish Program Goals
The goal of our Costa Rica Study Spanish Abroad Program is to make learning the Spanish language, practical, effective, and fun. The Costa Rica Spanish classes are interactive, creative and dynamic. Our teaching methodology is total immersion with varied activities and resources that will keep you learning fast and yearning for more.

Quality Spanish Learning
The college we partner with has offered college level Spanish for years and currently partners with European Colleges to offer Spanish for their college credit. Our programs are open throughout the year. Summer Study Spanish Abroad Programs are the most popular and fill up pretty fast. Classes are quite intense and are offered for 3 hours a day, five days a week.
College Credits
Because the International Volunteer Travel Study Abroad partner school teaches mostly college level Spanish (in addition to other levels), they have been able to offer Spanish for college credits in the past and can work with students requiring college transfers to this get this done. All that students need to do is find out from their schools back home what they need to make the study abroad program credits transferable and we will work with the student to do that.
Free Spanish Study Abroad Materials
To help you Study Spanish in Latin America, the Costa Rica Study Abroad Program offers lots of materials including books; printed grammar hints; magazines; review cards all for free. There are lots of videos, documentaries and films incorporated into the teaching process at no additional cost to the student. The program also features visits to indigenous villages, churches, markets, cultural conferences, etc, all of giving international Spanish language students more opportunities for learning.
Graduate Spanish Teachers
To guarantee the best results, all teachers are native speakers of the Spanish language, University graduates, highly qualified, and with experience in teaching Spanish as a second language. They have a great attitude and are willing to help and encourage you to learn Spanish.
Small Spanish Classes
To guarantee your personal attention and group homogeneity as you Study Spanish in Costa Rica, the classes are kept small, with an average of 2-3 and a maximum of 6 students.
Optional Tours for Spanish Students
To enhance the learning experience, this Spanish Study Abroad Costa Rica Program offers optional, free time tours for interested students. Tours offered during the Study Abroad Program in Costa Rica are at the expense of the student. Activities include soccer games, traditional dinners, potlucks, salsa classes, visits to hot springs and we hike volcanoes on the weekends. Students should set aside between USD 100 and USD 300 if they wish to participate in these optional tours.
Certificate of Participation
At the end of the program you will be granted a certificate showing the total number of hours you attended lessons and the level of learning you attained. The evaluation scale for the International Volunteer Travel ?Spanish Language Study Abroad Certificate? is the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

Other Costa Rica Survival Spanish Program Highlights
Location: San Jose, Capital City of Costa Rica.
Starting Dates: 2nd and 4th Monday on the month
Airport Arrival: Day before starting date, preferably by 10:30AM
Age Limit: 18 and over if participating singly; 16 and above if part of a group.
Spanish Study Abroad Class Schedule: Mondays to Friday, 3 hours a day.
Accommodation, Meals and Laundry: Accommodation with carefully selected Costa Rica host families (hostel or apartment can also be arranged). Two local Costa Rica meals a day. Laundry is provided for free.
Transport: Costa Rica Spanish School will be within walking distance or 5 to 20 minutes of bus ride from your local home. Bus return trip will normally not exceed USD 0.40.
