Ecuador Basic Spanish Program

To enhance the experience of overseas interns and volunteers abroad in Ecuador, the International Volunteer Travel offers a special one two week program for beginners, called the Ecuador Basic Spanish Program. This program is offered in collaboration with our partner Ecuador Spanish language school. Program participants who sign up for this program, take classes for 3 to 4 hours in the mornings and volunteer or intern in the afternoon.

The Ecuador Basic Spanish Program is designed with the purpose of providing students a richer experience and understanding of the cultural and traditions of Ecuador, and also, to develop their language skills for everyday travel situations. The Spanish language taught covers useful language for conversation at restaurant, bank, tourist office, supermarket, post office, airport, etc.

Entry Requirements

The Ecuador Basic Spanish Program is only available to Ecuador overseas interns and international volunteers with little or no prior knowledge of Spanish. This Ecuador program is designed for students who do not have enough time to learn the language in a more complete form, but who need the language to effectively participate in our Ecuador volunteer and internship abroad programs. Ecuador volunteers and interns may take the classes or choose not to. You can also choose to take one week or two weeks.

Local Host Families

In addition to taking Spanish classes, overseas interns and International volunteers in Ecuador have ample time to practice the language and learn the culture by living with an Ecuadorian host family.

Sample Schedule

A sample schedule of the one week version of the Ecuador Basic Spanish Program is as follows:

Day 1: Arrival and pickup from the Quito Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito, Ecuador. Transfer to host family home, and rest. Day 2: Registration, orientation; introduction to Spanish school staff. Day 3: Tour of the city of Quito. Day 4: Ecuador Basic Spanish classes begin 3-4 hours in the morning. Afternoon: Volunteer or internship work. Day 5-6: Ecuador Basic Spanish classes continue, 3-4 hours in the morning. Afternoon: Volunteer or internship work. Day 7: Last day of week 1 Ecuador Basic Spanish classes. Farewell to teachers and staff and Ecuador Basic Spanish Program evaluation in the afternoon. Day 8-12: Continue with week 2 Spanish classes in the morning and volunteer work in the afternoon. Day 13: End of week 2 Basic Spanish classes. Evaluation in the afternoon. Note: Weekends are free to explore the city of Quito and the rest of Ecuador. No classes are offered during the weekends; only Monday through Friday.

Note: The Ecuador Basic Spanish Program incorporates activities designed for overseas interns and volunteers abroad to experience the culture and lifestyles of Ecuador, through visits to indigenous villages, churches, markets, etc, it is possible to gain a more well rounded idea of the political, social and economic reality of Ecuador.

Note: The Ecuador Basic Spanish Program is not offered alone. Only participants who sign up for one other program such as the Ecuador volunteer program; the Ecuador internship program; or the Ecuador Adventure program can participate on the Ecuador Basic Spanish Program.
