Teaching Ecuador Volunteer Projects
There
is a major shortage of qualified teachers in many schools of
Ecuador, South America. Your contribution to teach English as
a second language abroad in Ecuador or to teach other subjects
will be highly appreciated by the community and fulfilling to
yourself.
Option A: Early Childhood Intervention
International volunteers in this South American teaching program
work with children less than 5 years old. In this Ecuador volunteer
teaching program, voluntary work includes helping teachers in
class, playing and leading activities and games, and participating
in parent outreach work.
Spanish Language Requirement: Basic Spanish
required.
Minimum Volunteer Duration: 1 month
Option B: Pre-School Teaching Volunteer Work
Overseas volunteers in the South American country of Ecuador can
work with children between the ages of 4 and 5 years old. Voluntary
work with the Ecuador Pre-School Teaching Program basically
entails teaching English as a second language (TESOL) and participating
in organized games with the children.
Spanish Language Requirement: Basic Spanish
preferred but not required.
Minimum Volunteer Duration: 2 weeks
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays;
4 to 8 hours
Option C: Drop-In Tutoring Center Volunteering
The Ecuador drop-In Tutoring program is a flexible program that
gives overseas teaching volunteers in South America the opportunity
to work with children in Ecuador primary/elementary schools.
Overseas volunteers in this program will serve as tutors and
assist with basic academic work in subjects of their interest
including English, Spanish, Math, and the sciences. Other duties
for participants volunteering with children in Ecuador include
helping with homework and organizing recreational activities
for Ecuadorian children who have completed their homework.
Spanish Language Requirement: Basic Spanish
recommended but not required.
Minimum Volunteer Duration: 2 weeks
Schedule: Overseas volunteers can work
for 2 hours in the morning session and 2 hours in the afternoon
session.
Option D: Vocational High School Volunteering/Community Service
The
Vocational High School Program is a community project designed
to equip teenagers in high school with basic vocational skill
and other non-academic but educational programs such as sex-education,
hygiene education campaign, theatre and athletic programs. International
volunteers will also assist in teaching vocational skills such
as sewing and carpentry or develop and organize the non-academic
programs.
Spanish Language Requirements: Basic
Spanish required
Minimum Volunteer Duration: 1 month
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays;
4 to 8 hours

Ecuador Program Highlights
Age Limit: 18 and over; Under 18 years only as outlined on Gap Year Abroad in Ecuador and Group Volunteer Abroad pages.
Length of Program: 1 week to 1 year.
Starting Dates: 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every Month
Airport Arrival: By 3.00 PM the day before starting date.
Accommodation and Meals: Local middle-income households; 3 Ecuadorian meals a day.
Transport: Most projects are within walking distance of home; otherwise cost will not exceed USD 0.5 per day buy local public buses or trolley.
Schedule of work: Mondays to Fridays; 4 to 8 hours per day.
Spanish Language Requirements: Basic Spanish recommended but not required.
