Free Volunteer Program
Those who sign up for this program in addition to the Guatemala Volunteer program pay only for the Guatemala Spanish language program and nothing for the volunteer placement. Those who sign up for other programs like internship and Adventure can contact us for an extremely discounted fee for these other programs. Standard or Intensive Spanish Program
These programs are suitable for anyone wanting to learn Standard
grammatical Spanish language at an Intensive level. Beginner,
Intermediate and Advanced levels of Spanish language are
offered in the Guatemala Spanish Study Abroad program.
Instructors use exercise, dictation and conversation to teach
Standard written and spoken Spanish.
Survival or Travelers Spanish Program
Focused
to help students and travelers develop practical skills for
everyday travel situations.
This program is designed for students and travelers who will be in the country for a short period of time, who do not have enough time to learn the language in a more complete form. It includes useful language for being in a restaurant, at a bank, in a tourist office, at a supermarket, at the post office, at the airport, etc. It has practical usage and it is highly intensive.
Spanish language instructions include visits to indigenous villages, churches and market; films and discussions aimed at enhancing the learning experience providing learners with a well-rounded view of life in Guatemala.
Spanish for University Students
If you are planning to go to college or you are a college or university student, this is the program for you. Our Guatemala Spanish Study Abroad partner school has extensive experience working with university students from the United States and other countries.
The program provides students with university level exams, a transcript and a diploma upon completion. This is an accredited program and course credits obtained here have been acceptable by universities in USA and Europe.
Spanish for High School Students
If you are a high school student or if you are parents to a high school student and would like your child to learn Spanish and have the enriching experience of being in a foreign country, with a different new culture, then we invite you to enroll in this program specially prepared for teenagers. This program is for young people between ages 12 to 18 years old.
Spanish for Children and Families
The International Volunteer Travel Guatemala study abroad program offers courses to parents and children of ages 5 to 12 years old. Parents enrolling in Spanish study abroad or International Volunteer programs are encouraged to enroll their children in this program as well. We can also arrange day care services with the host family while the rest of the family is studying Spanish in Guatemala.
The courses for children entail a wide range of fun materials, mini field trips and other activities in which your child will not only learn the Spanish Language, but also have a great time. Parents wishing to enroll with their children in this program should discuss the logistics with our staff.
Spanish for Ecology and Environment
This program is designed for international volunteers and overseas interns who have enrolled in the ecology and environment conservation and awareness program. In this program, international volunteers and interns will study Spanish in the mornings and in the afternoons work in the reforestation program.
As time and opportunity allow, Guatemala volunteers and interns enrolled in this program will also participate in giving theatre presentations to Guatemala elementary school children about the environment and reforestation.
Spanish for International Business
The Guatemala Spanish Study Abroad program has outstanding professionals who offer lectures incorporating different topics of interest to international business. If you are a student or a professional in the area of business and wish to enhance your Spanish skills and gain an edge in the world of business, this program is for you.
You will learn all the vocabulary related to the world of business, marketing, and finance in Spanish. Your vocabulary, fluency and grammar skills will be greatly enhanced. You will also learn about the Latin American Business culture.
If you contact us ahead of time, we can set up a volunteer or mini internship in the afternoons with a local business in Xela to facilitate your learning process and give you direct contacts with other business people.
Spanish for Professionals in Law, Medical and Social Work
There is a growing demand for medical, legal and social work professionals to speak Spanish, especially in the United States. The International Volunteer Travel with its partner Nongovernmental Organization (NGO) in Guatemala, have Spanish programs and practical volunteer opportunities to facilitate learning Spanish as a second language.
All Spanish Study Abroad participants in this program have two options to choose from. Either study Spanish in the mornings and volunteer in the afternoon or, study Spanish for a few weeks and then volunteer for the rest of the stay.
Professionals will practice their Spanish by volunteering with projects in the area of their practice including medical clinics, hospitals, local prisons, courts, police stations, women artisans projects, etc.
For those wanting to combine volunteer work with the Spanish classes, a minimum time commitment of four weeks is required to work in the clinic or hospital unless you are a fully qualified doctor or medical team; there is no time limit for nature and reforestation project and two weeks is required for all other projects. Prison volunteer work is limited to three mornings a week.
Spanish for Church Workers and Theologians
If you are a priest, pastor, evangelist, or a lay Christian eager to broaden your vocabulary in topics related to God, the Bible, and the Church, the International Volunteer Travel invites you to sign up for this program in Guatemala.
You will enjoy reading the Bible in Spanish and talking about this fascinating topic with the native speakers of Spanish. You will need to have basic Spanish, but you can take 2 weeks of the regular Spanish classes to meet this requirement or simply combine regular Spanish with Spanish for Theology.
Instruction in the Spanish for Theologians program includes visits to different churches, and discussions of Mayan and Guatemalan religious practices.Spanish for Teachers and Professors of Spanish
This program is for teachers and professors who wish to learn the easiest and least stressful way to teach the Spanish language in their respective schools and universities. International participants enrolled in this program must have must have an intermediate or advanced level of Spanish to participate in this program. International participants will learn how to teach Spanish to foreigners based on the same methods used by Spanish instructors in our Study Abroad Program.Submit an Application
