Guatemala like many developing countries lacks adequate health
care services especially for children and the poor. International
Volunteer Travel partners with Non-governmental Organizations
(NGOs) that provide health care for children and mature people.
The objective of this health care project is to raise the standard and quality of life of the community and provide efficient and quality services to people who are most vulnerable, especially women and children.
International
volunteers will work with local health centers and assist
with routine medical work like taking vital signs, dressing
wounds, taking patients history and keeping medical records,
counselling patients, providing assurance and moral support
to patients family, medical laboratory work; medical and
dental public health campaigns, etc.
Professional Requirements: All health care volunteers (doctors, nurses, dentists, senior students, etc) need proof of training such as practicing license, student ID, etc.
Spanish Language Requirements
Two weeks of Guatemala Spanish study is required for all applicants. One week is required for those fluent in Spanish. You can take our Survival Spanish or Spanish Study Abroad programs to meet requirements.

Guatemala Program Highlights
Age Limit:
18 and over; Under 18 years only as outlined on Gap Year Abroad in Guatemala and Group Volunteer Abroad pages
Free Program:
Volunteer placement is free for all those who
sign up for our Spanish
Study Abroad Program.
Location:
Xela; Buena Vista Los Corales, Cabricon, Guatemala,
Length of Program:
1 to 24 weeks.
Starting Dates:
2nd and 4th Wednesday of every Month. Plan
on Arriving the day before.
Airport Arrival Time: Preferably by 11:00 AM
Accommodation and Meals:
Except during the Adventure Program,
accommodation provided in Host families. 3 local Guatemalan
home meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are provided per day.
Transportation:
Most projects within 5 to 20 minutes walking
distance from home. Projects further off can be reached by walking
or by local bus at your expense and cost up to about USD
2.00 for a daily return trip to and from project. See specific

Schedule:
Mondays to Fridays. 4 to 5 hours daily.
