Voluntary Service with Guatemala Women
In 1996, the 36-year old civil war between the Guatemalan
government and guerilla forces
came to an end with both parties signing a Peace Accords.
After the civil war many women with neither education
nor work experience found themselves in a difficult
position of having to take care of their families by
themselves as their husbands had been killed during
the war.
The International Volunteer Travel partners with Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs) in Guatemala, to improve the standard of living of women and their families through sustainable economic development.
Volunteers
abroad who sign up for the Artisan groups volunteer work
will assist in women adult education; promotion of traditional
weaving; supervising the quality of products and; promotion
and marketing of products at both local and international
markets. You can also learn how to make the products and
assist in the same.
