Tanzania Swahili Study Abroad Program
The International Volunteer Travel is proud to offer the premier Study Abroad Tanzania Program. This overseas program provides the most excellent opportunity for non-native speakers to study Swahili as a second language in East Africa.
Swahili Program Structure
Classes are offered at three levels of Swahili learning, basic, intermediate and advanced. Students get a proficiency test to determine the level at which they should start. In addition to college Swahili, offer special programs for Children, Senior Citizens, Business people, Theologians and High School Students. Our programs are currently offered only in summer from May 15 to September 15. But classes can be offered to student groups of 3 or more at any other time of the year. Classes are quite intense and are offered for 3-4 hours a day, five days a week.
Swahili Program Goals
The goal of our Tanzania Swahili Study Abroad Program is to make learning the Swahili language, practical, effective, and fun. The Tanzania Swahili classes are interactive, creative and dynamic. Our teaching methodology is total immersion with varied activities and resources that will keep you learning fast and yearning for more.
Free Volunteer Placement
All Swahili Study Abroad students get free volunteer or internship placement in Tanzania. Students can take classes and volunteer or intern in the afternoon.

College Credits
The International Volunteer Travel Study Abroad school teaches college level Swahili (in addition to other levels) in partnership with local Tanzania colleges. Students need to confirm with their colleges of origin beforehand, if there is anything they need to do to make the study abroad credits transferable. We will work with the student to effect credit transfer.
Graduate Swahili Teachers
To guarantee the best results, all teachers are native speakers of the Swahili language, University graduates, highly qualified with experience in teaching Swahili. They have a great attitude and are willing to help and encourage you to learn Swahili.
Small Swahili Classes
To guarantee your personal attention and group homogeneity as you Study Swahili in Tanzania, the classes are kept small, with an average of 5 and a maximum of 15 students.
Optional Tours for Swahili Students
To enhance the learning experience, this Swahili Study Abroad Tanzania Program offers optional, free time tours for interested students. Tours offered during the Study Abroad Program in Tanzania are at the expense of the student. Activities include soccer games, African dancing, traditional dinners, African drumming classes, visits to nearby national parks and Tanzania beaches on the weekends. Most activities are free but classes for African dancing and drumming and the tours are not free. Students should set aside about USD 80 to 300 per week if they wish to participate in these optional activities. Students can also sign up for our Tanzania Adventure holiday program.
Study Abroad Certificate
At the end of the program you will be granted a certificate showing the total number of hours you attended lessons, the level of learning you attained and your scores. The evaluation scale for the International Volunteer Travel ?Swahili Language Study Abroad Certificate? is the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
